Korean Air has announced it will operate a total of 24 direct charter flights between Incheon and the Maldives four times a week between April 25 and June 4. Maldives is one of the most popular honeymoon destinations in the Indian Ocean for Koreans.

Formerly, Koreans travelling to the Maldives had to change flights in Singapore and the total travel time was around 15 hours. The new direct service from Korea's largest airline will reduce travel time to around 9 hours, the airline said.
Korean Air plans to introduce regular flight services to the Maldives if demand for the flights to the island nation increases.

Maldives is among the countries currently benefiting from an increase in the number of international tourists to Asia Pacific region.

The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) released figures which showed that in October 2009, visitors to the region increased by 2.2 percent compared to the year-ago period.
"The growth rate of 2.2 per cent achieved in October is by far the best year-on-year improvement in a very depressed year," said Kris Lim, director of PATA's Strategic Intelligence Centre.
PATA also predicted strong visitor numbers for November and December 2009 once the final figures are in.
